Raina's Mission

Raina acknowledges the extensive research that highlights the benefits of play and imagination on overall well-being and success. Play-based activities that stimulate the imagination promote healthy development, build resilience, establish positive habits, improve fitness, and enhance performance in school and work.

Our (Raina and husband Sean) goal is to enhance imaginative, play-filled experiences through our performances, Youtube videos, influencer work and public outreach efforts. We believe it is crucial for individuals of all ages to actively engage with their imagination.

Raina has been operating since 2008 as an independent mermaid, and then from 2012-2024 as Halifax Mermaids to bring this to fruition. 

Though changes in the local economy and access to pools have forced Raina to pivot to an independent approach, this mission still remains fundamental to us. 

The arts have a long-standing reputation for being a source of inspiration for people. They inspire change, growth, love, and creativity. Our performances, videos and outreach programs aim to inspire others to live a life they can be proud of, as we only have one life to live.

Raina has faced challenges and transformed her experiences into their art. By creating something meaningful out of difficult situations, they give purpose to our struggles.

Founding Mermaid Entrepreneur Hannah Fraser defines the term "mermaid" as follows:

"Maid" meaning servant and "Mer" meaning of the sea. Therefore, as mermaids, we serve the sea. Our performances and characters allow us to effectively educate others in a memorable way. Our ocean outreach programs, videos and assistance to clients in delivering their messages ensure that the impact of a mermaid is long-lasting and unforgettable.
